Youth Perfecting (Feb 28—Mar 7)
The moment we believed into the Lord is the moment we begin the Christian race. It is never too early to know God and His will for us. With this in view, we had a nine-day youth perfecting from 28 February to 7 March. 62 youths were present.
The entire youth perfecting was centered on five things:
God’s Word
Every time we come together, what is most important to us is God’s word. From the word of God, we came to know that life is God Himself and that to experience life is to experience God Himself. Thank the Lord that He is life to us! Besides, we also looked at the life of some characters in the Bible, including Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, Jacob, and Joseph. They were truly patterns for us and we learned many lessons from their lives.
Education
Education is important for young people. If we love the Lord and have a desire to be useful to Him, we need to give much attention to our education. In the Bible, we can also see examples of men who were greatly used by God. Moses was such a one. He was educated with all the wisdom of the Egyptians (Acts 7:22). When God called him, he was able to lead all the children of Israel out from Egypt, cross the Red Sea, build the tabernacle according to the pattern on the mount, and also write the first five books of the Bible. What a useful vessel he was! With this in view, we had seminar sessions on language and history for the young people to stir up their interest to learn, and do well in their studies.
Activities
Young people are living and active; it is all the more evident during the activity sessions. We had a game session where we saw youths who were usually reserved and quiet actively participating and opening up to one another. In another session, we gave the youths choices of activities they want to have. Some went for badminton, some went to visit Tugu Negera, some learned to play the piano to serve in the meeting, and still some others learned a new language! Wonderful!
Fellowship on Specific Topics
We had two sessions where we looked into two particular topics: seizing the opportunity and redeeming the time. Opportunity comes in from the door and escapes through the window. We just felt that we missed too many opportunities! Thank the Lord that we did not hear this word at the end of the perfecting. Every day in the perfecting was a day for us to enjoy Christ, to gain Christ!
Proper Being
As young people, we need to learn how to live as a proper human being. We saw what the proper clothing is as revealed in the Bible. We also saw the matter of food and the matter of proper recreation that preserves our human vessels.
At the end of the nine-day perfecting, we were all nourished with the supply of the word of God. We look forward to the next time we come together again. Meanwhile, may the Lord preserve every youth so that we all may be made useful in the Lord’s hand.
